Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota youth are learning sustainable, urban growing and healthy eating through Youth Farm, a youth-led, non-profit organization dedicated to smart community gardening. Founded by David Brant and Karen Lehman in 1995, Youth Farm and Market Project began in the Lyndale neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Originally, youth grew and harvested produce to sell in two neighborhood markets. Over the years, the program has expanded to include new Minneapolis locations, and today it serves over 800 children in the community–a far cry from the 10 that began Youth Farm nearly 20 years ago! And it’s largely youth-driven!
